The Mauler Retires - UFC Stockholm

UFC Stockholm delivered a great card and some great fights and we weren't surprised that The Mauler decided to retire after the defeat to Smith.

It was almost like a passing of the guard parade. Out with the old and in with the new, even though Smith has so much experience, we feel that he is just coming into his prime, with The Mauler being slightly past it now, even by his own recognition. If you look at his first fight against Jon Jones, then look at the last one, he was miles away from that form, and last night I think that he just knew that he couldn't compete at the top anymore.

Alexander Gustafsson is a credit to the sport and a credit to his country, bringing the UFC out to his home town on numerous occasions, fighting for the belt 3 times, it all must be some buzz even though he never quite made it.

Take a bow mate, take a bow.

Some great fights on the card last night, a brutal head kick KO from Aleksandar Rakic on Jimi Manuwa in the first round that was one of the best I've ever seen, the lights were totally out the other fights on the main card were also excellent.

On the under card we were cheering for Stevie Ray and he was looking really good, unlucky to get caught on the way in by Leonardo Santos with a peach that again just landed perfectly, nothing Stevie could do with that one unfortunately.

If you never watched it you will get it on the BT Sport app or lookout for the re run on BT Sport this week.
